A large number of the posts on this blog are book reviews. I generally review every book I read, though I usually won’t review books I am re-reading. The goal of these reviews is two fold:
1. Give recommendations to my blog readers for books I have read that they may either like or not like.
2. To glean writing lessons from books. I tend to learn more about writing from bad books, because it is easier to identify what a writer does wrong in these cases. I generally will not come right out and trash a book unless the offenses are agregious or the author shows disrespect for the reader / consumer.
I receive no payment for any of these reviews. If there is a conflict of interest / personal relationship with the author, I will always mention that in the review. As I get to know more and more authors through conferences, it does get harder and harder to remain objective. I know how much these authors pour into their work, and I want all authors to succeed. That said, a great book will always get a more glowing review than a medicore book, regardless of who wrote it.
If you are a publisher / author interested in having me read / review your book, please contact me to arrange for delivery. I cannot promise a reading / review date, but if I do have time, and I do like the book, I would also be interested in having the author do a guest blog post here.
